HOW CREATIVE FORECASTING WAS BORN

“The goal was twofold: to improve the quality of life and provide Activity and Recreation Professionals a publication that would make their professional lives easier.”

In March 1988, Mary Anne and Pegi were at Murphy’s Tavern in Colorado Springs discussing the idea of publishing a thematic newsletter for Activity and Recreation Professionals. The goal was twofold: To improve the quality of life and provide Activity and Recreation Professionals a publication that would make their professional lives easier.

The first newsletter was the January / February 1989 issue and it was 12 pages. Starting with the September 1990 issue, the publication went monthly. Additional pages were included as subscribers’ suggestions kept rolling in. The format expanded over the years to a 56-page magazine.

In 2002, Activity Planning Simplified®, a software program to create activity calendars, track resident participation, and print individual participation records, and many other tasks, was released.

Starting in 2006, Several Specialty Books, providing additional resources were added to Creative Forecasting’s publishing family.
